March 23rd Film Screening: Taking the Fall and Rising

Film Screening / Saturday March 23, 2013 / 7-9pm /

Harry Hickman Building Room 105, University of Victoria

In collaboration with the Committee to End Homelessness Victoria, the Vancouver Island Public Island Interest Research Group (VIPIRG) and the Poverty Law Club will be hosting a film screening of the local film Taking the Fall and Rising.

The screening will be followed by a talkback with community guests from the film, the filmmaker kym a. hines aka kym hothead – from the streets hirself, and members of the Poverty Law Club, who have received national media coverage for their advocacy in requesting a coroner’s inquiry into the thirty deaths of people on the street in Victoria.

Focused on experiences of living on the street in Victoria, the film has its ear to the ground as it intertwines stories of:

– Life on the Street folks share their stories around housing and shelter as well as experiences with police

– Housed Voices folks share their experiences with police and solutions to housing

– Kim Freeman and Lindsay Katsitsakatste Delaronde stories of two diverse lives, diverse paths who share a common strength of spirit

Join us for the free screening and free healthy food on March 23, 2013 at 7:00 pm at Harry Hickman Building Room 105.
