BBQ City Hall-Turn Up the Heat on Council
oin us at City Hall, Pandora Entrance this Thursday, June 14th, 2012 at 7:00PM.
VIPIRG’s report on the policing of poverty was released six months ago. Since then, we’ve been working hard to engage Victoria City Council to address the issues outlined in the report, such as social profiling. We’ve seen no action from council towards stopping the criminalization of poverty. What’s up? Come on down for a BBQ with us to remind council that we’re still here and nothing has changed on the streets. We still want council to take action by repealing bylaws that target street-involved people, creating a zero tolerance for discrimination policy, and implementing mechanisms for greater police accountability.
If you’d like to speak to council about this follow this link to register. http://www.victoria.ca/cityhall/council-address-form.aspx (must be submitted before 11am June 13th).
See you there!
